Journal map

The map displayed below provides an overview of the structure of the scientific world. It shows relations among 5000 major scientific journals. The map was constructed using VOSviewer and is based on co-citation data. All citations in the Web of Science database from articles published in 2007 to articles published between 1997 and 2006 were used. Click here to examine the map in full detail using VOSviewer.

More information can be found in the following publication:

  • Van Eck, N.J., & Waltman, L. (2010). Software survey: VOSviewer, a computer program for bibliometric mapping. Scientometrics, 84(2), 523-538. (paper, preprint)

An improved map based on the same data is available here. Instead of the VOS mapping technique, a new experimental mapping technique was used to construct this map.
